VolunteerCNY.org, a program of United Way, works in partnership with hundreds of community-based nonprofit agencies to provide volunteers with a variety of meaningful opportunities for service and leadership.  Nonprofit organizations do not need to be an United Way Partner Agency to take advantage of the services offered by VolunteerCNY and the Regional Volunteer Center @ the United Way of Central New York.




1. The quantity and diversity of opportunities listed in our database draws a large group of volunteers from the community.
 Volunteers can find projects in several ways:


2. VolunteerCNY.org enables you to promote different types of opportunities including:

  • Ongoing and one-time needs
  • Date-specific and open-ended opportunities
  • Projects for individuals and groups
  • Projects that require specific skills (new functionality coming soon)

3. Your organization has the opportunity to manage recruitment efforts for various projects in different ways depending on the nature of the project.

  • For projects that require training, screening, and/or individual scheduling you can allow volunteers to “indicate interest” online.
  • For projects that are date and time specific and don’t require prior training or screening, you have the option to allow volunteers to “sign up” online.

4. Access to additional resources and best practices - We strive to connect our Partner Agencies with valuable resources to strengthen their volunteer programs, while supporting them in addressing critical needs in Central New York. As a Partner Agency, you'll have access to resources such as:

  • Training and networking opportunities
  • Volunteer Manager ListServ
  • Online library of volunteer management resources
  • And much more...




Follow these steps to become a Partner Agency:

1. Make sure you're eligible. VolunteerCNY.org partners with community-based agencies that fit the following criteria:

  • Organizations must have 501(c)3 nonprofit status, or be a public/not-for-profit school or a government organization.
  • Have nondiscrimination policies in place that reflect state and federal law in regards clients served and volunteers accepted.
  • Provide services and volunteer opportunities within our 5 county region (Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Oonondaga & Oswego counties). 
**Nonprofit organizations do not need to be an United Way Partner Agency to take advantage of the services offered by VolunteerCNY 

2. Confirm that your organization isn't already a Partner –
It's possible that someone else from your organization has already been through the partnership process. Check our Partner Agency Directory to ensure that your organization isn't already an active Partner.  If you find your organization in the directory or if you think your organization has been a partner in the past (but may currently be inactive), contact us so that we can reactivate your account and/or add you as a contact for your organization.

3. Submit a copy of your nonprofit status
 - submit a copy of your 501(c)3 nonprofit status via emailor fax it to 315.428.2227 Attn: Eryka Morgenroth, to begin the partnership process. Once your form has been received and varified, we'll review it and follow up with you. Once approved by the System Administrator, you will receive an email notification containing information on how to access the partner portal.
**Please note that while we strive to process all partnership requests as quickly as possible, it may take up to 48 hours to process your submission.
