Who We Are

Founded in 1991, Francis House is a home for the dying that is open to all residents regardless of faith, ethnicity, or ability to pay. Francis House is sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities.

Our mission is to provide a family and a home to people with terminal illnesses so that they can die with dignity and experience the unconditional love of God. We use our lived experience as a resource for others. Our core values are compassion, unconditional acceptance, respect, and dignity.

Volunteers are the heart of Francis House - the gifts of your time and talens are invaluable. With a variety of volunteer opportunities to choose from seven days a week, there are endless ways you can make a difference to our residents and their families when they need it most. Volunteers benefit from special training, flexible scheduling, and the opportunity to meet new people.

What We Do

Francis House provides a home and a supportive extended family to people with terminal illnesses; those with a prognosis of six months or less to live. Our family of caregivers, staff, and volunteers surround each resident with unconditional love, guided by core values of compassion, acceptance, respect, and dignity.  Francis House welcomes all residents regardless of faith, ethnicity or ability to pay for their care.

Francis House offers 16 private residence rooms.  The organization provides caregiving 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.  Each resident room has a private bedroom with cable television and a phone. Laundry service is provided. Visiting hours are open any time for family and friends.

Our quality, individualized care includes:

  • 24-hour caregiving
  • home-cooked meals at any time of day
  • pastoral care, when requested
  • access to our Chapel, great rooms, lending libraries, and quiet spaces of reflection
  • integrative therapies, including pet therapy, music therapy, reiki, and more
  • birthday and holiday celebrations.

The cost of care at Francis House is $7,500 per resident, per month. Residents are asked to contribute towards the cost of their care; however, no resident is ever turned away because of lack of resources.

Franics House received no federal, state or local funding nor any insurance reimbursement. Our mission is entirely supported solely by the generosity of the Central New York community we serve.
