Who are you helping by volunteering for the program?
People who generally make $60,000/year or less, or who have a disability, help ensure they receive the refunds they are owed (or learn the accurate amount they might owe) without paying for-profit tax return programs, saving them anywhere from $50 - $250!
What kind of support is available for volunteers?
NEHDA is one of several Syracuse-based agencies that offer this service, the most wide-reaching program is PEACE, who also provides training for the volunteers of all other participating agencies (including us!)
Volunteers have access to the senior tax preparers at PEACE, as well as an IRS support line to help ensure everything is prepared correctly. We use an online software that guides preparers through the process and of course all tax returns are double-checked by another volunteer.
