Book Buddies connects community volunteers with students in grades K-3 in the Syracuse City School District.
Volunteers commit to one hour, once a week for the school year working with the same 2 students in 30-minute blocks. On site, volunteers will select their student's packets and books based on their current reading level for the session. After each session, volunteers update the student reading log and leave relevant notes for the site coordinator. Staff are always present to support the volunteers.
The program runs Monday - Thursday and ends on Thursday, June 15th, 2023. Hours can start as early as 10:30 AM and extend until 12:30 PM. After connecting with Laurie Black, prospective volunteers will need to complete a background check and attend a training. Then you can select the school and hour that works best for you.
Participating SCSD schools include: Seymour Dual Language Academy, Bellevue Elementary, and Roberts K-8!
