Parking is available behind the Camillus Village Offices. 

Volunteers will help support the Dunbar Center by assisting with cleaning, organizing, and refreshing key areas of the building. These projects help us create safe, welcoming spaces for the children, families, and seniors we serve every day. Tasks may include light cleaning, organizing program materials, setting up rooms, spreading mulch in the flower beds, or helping with general facility upkeep. All supplies will be provided, and staff will be on-site to guide volunteers throughout the project. Your time and energy make a real difference for our community.

Thornden Park Association volunteers maintain four gardens in Thornden Park: the Lily Pond, Madison Street, Carriage House and Lilac Grove. We would like to schedule a two hour work session. No experience is required and we can provide tools.

Volunteer puppy raisers and sitters prepare our pups for guide dog training. Raisers bring puppies into their homes to teach them how to live with people and to enjoy learning the skills they need to take on a job that will change someone’s life. Puppy sitters take dogs on short term assignments while still maintaining the skills learned from their full time puppy raiser.  Many of our volunteers find the experience life-changing too.

Simply put, raisers and sitters care for and teach puppies to enjoy being with people and cultivate the confidence a future guide dog needs. They provide hours of patient teaching and socialization experiences over a 12-to-16-month period before returning a well-socialized young adult dog to Guiding Eyes training staff for harness training.

All the volunteer’s work culminates when a person who is blind or visually impaired receives their priceless gift − a guide dog providing mobility, companionship and independence.

Join Central New York Land Trust's Stewardship team for a workday at Marie's Woods in Cicero! We will be doing trail work like removing hazardous trees, trimming the trail, removing litter and trail marking. Bring your boots and gloves, trimmers and pruners if you have them. Connection Specialists play a key role in delivering these services by providing compassionate, non-clinical, phone-based support to individuals seeking connection, emotional support, or regular check-ins.

Contact Warmline – Provides free, confidential, non-crisis support through inbound calls focused on listening, emotional support, and connection.

This is a non-clinical role. Connection Specialists are not expected to provide counseling, therapy, or independently manage crisis situations.

Pair up to drive and deliver meals to our homebound neighbors in need (6 groups of 2 adults, per car). You will be assigned 5-6 routes that cover the entire city of Syracuse. Pick-up is at 307 Gifford St., Syracuse, NY 13204

Volunteers will be asked to support our feeding program, stock and reorganize the food pantry, and clean up the center. 

Join us for the *official* Grand opening for Perkins Woods Preserve, one of the newest CNY Land Trust properties. From 9am to 11am will be a short ceremony and guided hike with history from the Perkins family and plants from our Stewardship Manager Macy Carr. 

From 11am to 1pm will be dedicated to trail work to widen the trail in a few places, as well as installing some stairs. Most tools will be provided but bringing clippers and loppers would be helpful!

Join your neighbors on August 6, 2026, from 9:30 am – 3:30 pm at 117 Butternut St., Syracuse, NY 13208 for a day of landscaping and cleanup work on the Northside. Volunteers will help with weeding, raking out topsoil, spreading grass seed and hay, cutting down weed trees, and general landscaping beautification.

At VanKeuren Sqaure on the East Side,  3-5 volunteers will assemble a premade medium-sized shed.

Energy bars, Gatorade, water, and a sub tray lunch with chips will be provided. Gloves, all tools/materials, and limited sunscreen will also be available on-site- please wear your own sun protection as well.

Weather permitting, we need our fence repainted. If weather does not cooperate, we have an indoor painting project. 

We will be clearing out the goat house and laying down fresh bedding for the year.  This will take a group of people who will work with shovels and pitchforks to remove the deep bedding in the 10 X 20 structure and then lay down fresh woodchips that will create the base of the deep bedding for the winter.

We're seeking volunteers to help us with some of our heavy-duty yardwork! Volunteers will help expand trail access on our 1/4 mile inclusive nature trail, moving mulch, moving small rocks to improve drainage areas, etc.

All you need to bring is yourself - we will supply all necessary materials and will have refreshments available. 

Throughout July and August we will work on Saturdays as well as Sunday to complete conservation projects.  We have 40 acres of land that we are removing the honeysuckle and buckthorn and then planting native species.  Volunteers will learn about selective cutting and controlled burns.  We will use loppers and chainsaws.  No prior knowledge is needed. Dress to be in the woods. We provide mosquito repellant and gloves.

EnergySmart CNY welcomes new volunteers to help us in our mission of providing CNY residents with resources that save energy, lower utility costs, and reduce their carbon footprint. Most volunteer roles focus on outreach efforts and community events that connect residents with energy-saving programs and resources. As a volunteer, you may help set up and support workshops, staff an outreach table at community events, collect testimonials from past program participants, and assist with other engagement activities.

EnergySmart CNY participates annually with PEACE Inc., for their back to school backpack giveaway for students and families in the City of Syracuse. We take great care in putting together useful tools and supplies that prepare students for the school year and are seeking dedicated volunteers to assist with preparations.  Volunteers may also support efforts to build relationships by helping connect community organizations with program partners and resources at the Giveaway at the end of August if interested!

Our Energy Efficiency Workshops (EEWs) are community presentations with energy-saving tips and programs that can help residents of CNY save money year-round, such as insulation, air sealing, solar programs, and alternative electric heating (heat pumps). We also give away free DIY energy kits (valued at $40) to participants and guidance on enrolling in energy saving programs available through New York State. We take great care in preparing educational materials for these workshops and would love the the help of dedicated volunteers in our preparations to provide a quality experience for all attendees.

Join House of Psalms 23 for our Welcome Home Project as we prepare our newly established Supportive Housing Program, featuring 14 scattered-site housing units for individuals transitioning into stable housing. This volunteer opportunity will help transform empty apartments into welcoming homes for participants who are beginning a new chapter in their lives. Volunteers will work alongside House of Psalms 23 staff to create comfortable, dignified, and move-in-ready living spaces while also enhancing the outdoor appearance of the property.

We are seeking hardworking and compassionate volunteers to join our team on Saturday, July 25th, for the third annual BIPOC Mental Health & Wellness Fair.

Volunteers will be asked to do indoor and outdoor projects as applicable. Tasks will include: 

Join Salt City Harvest Farm for a hands-on day of community service. Volunteers will work alongside our staff and farmers to prepare the farm for the busy late summer season. 

Projects may include spreading woodchips to improve pathways and reduce weeds, seeding cover crops to improve soil health, general farm beautification, light weeding, and other seasonal projects that help keep the farm productive and welcoming. 

No farming experience necessary. We will provide all tools, instruction, and water. Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, closed-toe shoes, and be prepared for the weather. 

Your efforts will directly support local farmers while helping increase access to fresh, culturally important food throughout our community.

Southern Missionary Baptist Church is seeking volunteers to assist with an important outdoor safety and grounds improvement project. Several trees on the property are leaning and overgrown, creating potential safety concerns for members, visitors, and the surrounding community. We are in need of assistance with tree cutting and removal, shrub and bush removal, landscaping, debris cleanup, and general outdoor maintenance.

We will be working in the woods clearing invasive species- honeysuckle and buckthorn to increase biodiversity. This has been an ongoing project that has dramatically changed the quality of the woods.  Volunteers will learn to identify honeysuckle and buckthorn and be provided the tools to remove it.  Much of the work will be done with loppers and chainsaws.  We will also be gathering downed sticks and logs to reduce the biofuel on the forest floor.  If the weather is appropriate, we will be have a fire.  

Clear Path For Veterans is looking for groups or individuals that would be interested in coming out for a few hours to help with our grounds and/or facilities. Tasks such as raking, weeding, trimming, mowing, planting and more.  Our 78 acres in Chittenango is regularly used by veterans, family members, and the community. 

Help us refresh and restore key areas of the Downtown YMCA during this year's Day of Caring! Volunteers will play an important role in improving the appearance and functionality of our facility by assisting with painting projects and helping revitalize member lockers through cosmetic repairs and restoration efforts. Help bring order and inspiration to the Arts Branch library during the United Way Day of Caring! Volunteers will assist with organizing books, tidying shelves, sorting materials, and creating a welcoming space for members and participants to explore, learn, and grow. Your efforts will help ensure that this valuable resource remains accessible, inviting, and ready to support creativity and lifelong learning for all who visit.

Cleaning up the front and back areas of our property, yardwork will include tasks like weeding, planting, and cutting down tree branches in the play area.

This project will focus on improving and maintaining this community greenspace through a variety of stewardship activities, including:

We have clients who are elderly, live alone, and/or are no longer able to do much yard work. We would like to have a group (or many groups) clean up the yard of one of our clients so that they can utilize their space. This work will be fun and interactive. We'll have 5 homes total throughout the area and split up into groups of 3 to 5 per home!

Volunteers will assist Beaver Lake staff in preparing for the upcoming Golden Harvest Festival. Activities may include painting, cleaning signage and materials, inventorying supplies, etc.

Volunteers will assist Beaver Lake staff in removing invasive plants from trails, trimming vegetation on trails and park grounds, and hauling plant material away.

At the front desk, volunteers greet incoming guests, assist guests if needed, answer calls, and tend the gift shop. Our front desk volunteers are typically the first person visitors to our interpretive center see. Front desk volunteers often have the option to help with projects such as preparing education and special event program materials, inputting data, filing, and more. It is a huge help to have someone covering the front desk so that visitors feel welcome and staff can do their work without being interrupted at the desk. Training is provided to help volunteers feel comfortable staffing the desk on their own.

Weekly shifts are typically 3-4 hours on weekdays when the interpretive center is open (9:00am-4:00pm). We currently have an opening Tuesday and Friday PMS (1:00-4:00)

The CNY Cat Coalition has no staff or facility and relies on volunteers to help track our finances and record donations and expenses. This position can be done remotely through a personal laptop/computer. Individual should have a background in accounting or finance and be comfortable using QuickBooks Online. This volunteer opportunity should take a few hours a week. This person will support the board treasurer and field questions about general accounting standards and other finance issues.

The Syracuse International Film Festival relies on dedicated volunteers to create a welcoming and professional experience for filmmakers and audiences.

Here are the ongoing (June 26 & 27, Oct 1-4 In Person) volunteer roles available:

Ushers- Greet attendees, guide them to their seats, assist with seating arrangements, and ensure a smooth flow of traffic in and out of screening venues. Ushers help create a warm first impression and maintain order during sold-out screenings.

Concessions- Operate concession stands, handle cash and card transactions, serve food and beverages, maintain cleanliness of concession areas, and ensure adequate stock throughout events. This role keeps audiences fed and happy during the festival.

Ticketing- Check tickets at venue entrances, assist with will-call pickups, help attendees with ticket questions or issues, and direct guests to appropriate screening rooms. Ticketing volunteers are the first point of contact for many festival-goers.

Q&A Assistance- Help facilitate post-screening Q&A sessions with filmmakers and cast members. This includes managing microphones for audience questions, keeping sessions on schedule, and assisting moderators as needed.

Security- Monitor venue entrances and exits, ensure only ticketed guests enter screenings, assist with crowd control during high-attendance events, and help maintain a safe environment for all attendees and equipment.

Panel Support- Assist with panel discussions and industry events by setting up microphones and equipment, managing audience questions, keeping panels on schedule, and supporting panelists with any technical or logistical needs.

Setup and Breakdown- Help prepare venues before screenings and events by arranging seating, setting up signage, preparing registration areas, and other pre-event tasks. After events, assist with breaking down equipment, clearing venues, and restoring spaces to their original condition.

Photographer- Capture candid and staged photos of screenings, red carpet arrivals, Q&A sessions, panels, and festival atmosphere. Document the festival experience for promotional materials, social media, and archival purposes.

Videographer- Record screenings, Q&A sessions, panels, and festival highlights. Create video content for promotional use, social media, and festival archives. May also assist with live-streaming events.

Our Central New York Digitization Center has state-of-the-art digitization hardware that we typically operate Monday through Thursday in three-hour shifts, starting at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Volunteers are asked to commit to a shift once a week for at least three months.

GMVT accepts ride requests Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Rides can be one-way (drop-off or pick-up) or round trip where the driver waits during the appointment. Appointments can be in Madison or bordering counties and include: primary care or specialists, lab work, vision, dental, physical therapy, mental health, and pharmacy visits. Riders can use and bring their mobility aids (canes, walkers, etc.) however, they should be able to ambulate independently. Book Buddies connects community volunteers with students in grades K-3 while school is out. Mondays through Thursdays, volunteers commit to one hour a week for a few weeks in the summer, working with students in 30-minute blocks. A background check and training are required before you can begin.

How it works: Volunteers team up in pairs, taking turns once a month to meet with a Girl Scout troop. Each pair ends up supporting 1–2 meaningful gatherings per year—easy to fit into a busy schedule, and truly impactful for girls. No experience required.

CNY Little Free Libraries and Team LFL - Central New York are looking for a volunteer to find and document book sharing boxes throughout Central New York.

We need volunteers to go to Cortland County, NY to help document the LFLs in Zipcodes 13803, 13101, 13141, 13077 and 13040 for our directory.  You will be given the addresses of the libraries we are looking for. At each library you will:

County North Children’s Center is a nationally-accredited (by the National Association for the Education of Young Children) and locally-licensed (by the NY State Office of Children and Family Services) non-profit which has been serving the local community for over 50 years. It provides quality care for over 100 children from infant through elementary school age. For the past few years, it has also served as one of the implementation sites for the Liverpool Central School District’s extended pre-kindergarten (EPK) program. 

A volunteer Board of Directors governs the Center and assists the Executive and Program Directors in running it. Both current parents and guardians with children at the Center, as well as qualified community members at large are welcome to serve. The membership size ranges from six to eighteen members. Member terms are three years long. As a member of the Board, one assumes responsibility for ensuring that the Center fulfills its mission in daily operations and remains sustainable in the future.

The Syracuse International Film Festival is looking for a REMOTE VOLUNTEER to help us amplify indie cinema!

What we need: 

The Program provides year-round, no-cost tax preparation in Syracuse and Onondaga County. The program’s tax preparers and trained volunteers ensure low-income clients receive the highest tax refund possible, earn maximum Earned Income and Child Tax Credits (EITC, CTC), and avoid predatory lenders and/or expensive tax preparation fees. In 2024, the program secured -on average- $1900 in tax returns for nearly 1400 households whose average income was $29,000. Providing at times transformative financial opportunities for those who need it most, the program is nonetheless volunteer-driven. The more volunteers, the more clients served!

Admin Assistant Volunteers help clients organize and complete their paperwork. They also help with the flow of the site by assisting with completing necessary data entry work and other office duties. Helps with making phone calls to clients to answer their questions and set up appointments.

Interpreter Volunteer
Greets and assist clients who do not speak English as their primary language with paperwork. Answers logical questions and helps translate documents that are not available in their native language. They are the first members to greet the client entering the site. We are especially looking for an interpreter for clients who speak/read Spanish.
