Who We Are

The Cayuga Museum of History & Art in Auburn, NY, primarily serves the city of Auburn, Cayuga County, and the broader Central New York and Finger Lakes regions. The Cayuga Museum operates three historic structures on one property. In the main Museum building, an 1836 Greek Revival mansion, we present permanent and rotating exhibitions on local history and art in eight galleries. The Case Research Laboratory houses a permanent exhibit on the story of Theodore Case, the man who (among other major inventions) introduced sound film to the world. The Carriage House Theater is a multi-use space utilized for Museum presentations and lectures, live music events, performances, programming, and available for event rentals by individuals and organizations. The Theater is also the site of some of the earliest sound film recordings ever created.

What We Do

We are a local history and art museum featuring permanent and rotating exhibits on a variety of subjects relating to the city of Auburn and Cayuga County. We also operate the Case Research Laboratory historic site, where the process of creating synchronized sound film was invented in the 1920s.
