ARISE Adaptive Design (AAD) works with community volunteers and individuals with disabilities to create individualized, low-cost adaptive equipment that provides those living with with disabilities greater opportunity in all areas of life. AAD brings together local makers, artists, and clinicians and pairs them with the individuals requesting an adaptive device to create a customized piece of equipment that’s tailored specifically to the recipient’s dimensions, abilities, needs, and interests. As much and as often as possible our program encourages the individual requesting the adaptive device along with their network of family, friends, and clinicians to not only be included in the build process but to lead their team in dictating how they would like it to fit, function, look, and/or what they would like to accomplish through its use. Examples of adaptive equipment AAD has made in the past include standing frames, customized supportive seating, assistive electronic switches, early childhood mobility devices, wheelchair trays, and much more.
ARISE Adaptive Design also provides hands-on workshops with local high school and university programs that expose students to the philosophy, approach, and techniques used in the adaptive design process. Students will be taught the importance of adaptive design, the iterative design process, creative, low-cost construction techniques, and have the chance to build an adaptive device themselves.
Corporate volunteer events are also available with ARISE Adaptive Design. These fun, engaging, and meaningful volunteering opportunities offer a hands-on, teambuilding experience for those involved. Best yet, the money raised, and devices made through these corporate volunteering experiences go on to help others in our community.
