Who We Are

HOPE's Mission

HOPE for Bereaved, Inc. provides support groups, peer counseling, and resources at no charge to grieving Central New York youth, adults, families, and organizations.

Our Founding

In 1978, our founder experienced the tragic loss of her daughter. At the time, Central New York lacked support groups for parents coping with such a profound loss. Determined to create a positive impact, the first support group, Coping with the Holidays, was established. Since then, HOPE has provided support to hundreds of thousands of people during their most difficult times.

What We Do

What We Do

HOPE provides bereavement support to all individuals and families, at every stage of their grief journey. We serve a population that is diverse in age, gender, and socioeconomic background.

When a death occurs within a school, business, or other organization, HOPE’s peer counselors visit the site to provide direct, community-based support to those affected. This is in addition to offering individual counseling and support groups at our primary location. HOPE also offers a variety of resources for those who are grieving. We curate a variety of supportive articles, produce a bi-monthly newsletter, and partner with field experts to provide diverse modalities for grief support, such as yoga and singing. Additionally, we offer specialized training to organizations, preparing them to effectively support their members and employees when faced with the death of a loved one.
