WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP & ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT
The YWCA serves the needs of women through the Women's Residence Program, which provides supportive transitional and permanent housing for single women and mothers. Residents have access to person-centered and trauma-informed care services designed to support the unique challenges they face, including addiction and substance abuse, mental health disorders, and ongoing trauma from domestic abuse and homelessness.
Services offered through the YWCA include but are not limited to: case management, rental assistance, housing placement, career counseling, domestic violence individual counseling, domestic violence support groups (Women of Worth program), NA meetings and referral services, and the Women to Work Program.
Women's Residence participants are provided with safe, stable housing within a structured environment. The YWCA helps develop independent living skills, allowing women to overcome challenges, function at their highest degree of independence, and better their quality of life.
YOUTH LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT
The YWCA supports Syracuse youth ages 5-18 through two youth leadership and development offerings: Girls Inc. at YWCA and YWCA Youth Soccer programs.
Girls Inc. at YWCA is affiliated with Girls Inc., a national nonprofit dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. We provide research-based, informal education programs that promote social emotional learning, provide mentorship, and encourage girls to master physical, intellectual, and emotional challenges. Our programs include:
- Girls Inc. at YWCA free afterschool programs (October - June)
- Hoops and Dreams basketball program
- Camp Discovery & Teen Summer programs (early July - late August)
- Day programming during school breaks
- Girls' Summit event for STEAM career exploration
- Outreach programs at local public schools
The YWCA also makes quality soccer programs accessible to city youth through Soccer for Success and the Syracuse City Futbol Community. Both free programs enable students to learn and play, promote healthy lifestyles, and increase pathways to college.
Soccer For Success helps youth ages 5-13 develop critical life skills through coach mentorship. The YWCA facilitates Soccer for Success afterschool programs through several community partnerships and also offers Soccer for Success in the summer at Schiller Park. The Syracuse City Futbol Community offers free boys and girls soccer teams for youth who excel in soccer and are looking for competition at a higher level.
