Description

Help Spanish Speaking Adults in Your Community Learn Essential Digital Skills- Volunteer with LiteracyCNY to Bridge the Digital Divide

LiteracyCNY is looking for dedicated Spanish-speaking volunteers to help adults in the City of Syracuse learn essential computer, smartphone, and tablet skills. In partnership with Syracuse Housing Authority (SHA), LiteracyCNY schedules sessions for Digital Literacy Volunteers to work with residents to develop their digital skills. SHA serves hundreds of Spanish speakers who struggle with English. Your ability to communicate in both English and Spanish will make a significant impact in helping SHA residents impacted by the digital divide.

Location Details:

  • SHA's 15 residential properties are dispersed throughout the City of Syracuse. SHA offers low-income housing tax credits, public housing, and housing choice vouchers. These locations serve populations that are significantly impacted by the digital divide.
    • Drop-in sessions are located in public spaces such as community rooms and computer labs. LiteracyCNY volunteers do not enter private homes.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist individuals with beginner-level digital skills, including operating computers, smartphones, and tablets.
  • Support residents in navigating digital platforms and using technology to access essential services and information.
  • Provide bilingual assistance (English/Spanish) to help overcome communication barriers in digital literacy skill-building.

Requirements:

  • Complete our Digital Literacy Volunteer Training to learn about the program’s goals, the communities we serve, and how you can make an impact.
  • Be available for 2-3 two hour sessions per month, for a minimum of 6 months.
