The mission of Girls’ Summit is to empower, motivate, educate, and change the perception of girls and women in S.T.E.A.M. The program is open to everyone, regardless of their sex, gender, or gender identity. Past workshop topics have included paper-making and testing, building watershed models, constructing wind turbines, heartbeat regulation, Science for Health and Life, coding, Scratch software, and fermentation. Our primary goal is to empower youth with the confidence, knowledge, and role models essential for making educational and life decisions consistent with personal goals of economic independence, self-sufficiency, and equality.
The event is held at SUNY ESF and includes a keynote address, a series of workshops, and panel discussions comprised of students from local colleges and high schools.
Participants will rotate through 4 of 8 workshops on the ESF campus from 10:35am and 2:35pm, with a lunch break. Each workshop will run for approximately 45 minutes and will include hands-on activities to engage the students.
Group Guide Volunteer: You and another volunteer will be assigned a group of 10-15 youth and for whom you will spend the day with: attend all sessions, breaks, and lunch.
